Doctor Describes Final Days Of Injured Louisville Infant

Molly Midyette On Trial In Infant Son's Death

POSTED: 6:23 am MST December 18, 2007

The trial of a Louisville mother accused of waiting too late to seek medical treatment for her critically-injured son continued Monday in a Boulder courtroom.

According to a report in the Boulder Daily Camera, nurse Kimber Goedert testified that she overheard a conversation between Molly Midyette and her husband in which the mother asked in suspicious manner, "Did you?"

Then Alex Midyette replied in a loud, booming voice, "No," according to a report in the Boulder Daily Camera.

The two were behind a closed door in the hospital room where their son Jason Midyette was taken on Feb. 24, 2006.

Family doctor Jill Siegfried, who delivered the child, also testified for the prosecution on Monday, which would have been the boy's second birthday.

Jason Midyette suffered from 37 fractures, according to an autopsy, and died of a head injury a week after he was brought to the hospital. He was 10 weeks old when he died.

Siegfried testified about the last time she saw the infant at her office. She said the soft spot on his head was bulging, his arms were folded upward at his elbows and his legs were sticking straight out -- signs she said indicated a head injury.

Alex Midyette is charged with inflicting his son's injuries. He is schedule to stand trial early next year.

The two were indicted by a grand jury last May following a seven-month investigation. According to the indictment, Alex Midyette admitted to accidentally hitting the boy's head on a chair and table.
