DENVER -- Metro area law enforcement hopes the public can help catch the men and women they call the worst of the worst -- the 50 top fugitives on the run.

The "50 Most Wanted Fugitive Round-Up" was announced Saturday. The operation is coordinated by the Fugitive Location Apprehension Group, commonly referred to as FLAG. The group comprises eight different law enforcement agencies in the Denver metro area.

Police say they’ve been using their resources throughout the year to track these men and women down. Sunday will be dedicated to catching as many as possible. When officers aren’t chasing down leads in these cases, nearly 100 officers will be on the streets handing out warrants.

In last year’s effort, 68 percent of the fugitives were captured.

Rudolfo Gonzalez, 27, is at the top of this year's list and police said he's one of their top priorities.

Police said he shot and killed 21-year-old Teddy Guerra Jr. at a Halloween party in 2005.

His mother and father, Michelle and Teddy Guerra Sr., said they haven't given up hope.

They said they are encouraged to see the man believed to be their son's killer is back on the public's radar.

"To know that much more people are going to see him...maybe we're that much closer to getting him,"said Michelle Guerra.
