Trial Begins Monday In Midyette Case

BOULDER, Colo. -- The mother of a 10-week-old boy who died in 2006 goes on trial in Boulder Monday.Molly Midyette, of Louisville, Colo., is charged with child abuse resulting in death -- accused of not seeking medical help for Jason Midyette's injuries.Her husband, Alex Midyette ,is set to stand trial in January on charges that he caused the fatal injuries to his son.
Neither parent has spoken to investigators, but they were indicted by a grand jury last May following a seven-month investigation.According to the indictment, Alex Midyette admitted to accidentally hitting the boy's head on a chair and table.The Boulder County coroner ruled Jason died from a fractured skull in a homicide.Doctors also found more 28 broken bones. The coroner ruled out a brittle-bone medical condition as the cause.Jury selection is expected to take several days before opening statements in the case. Nearly 600 prospective jurors were contacted and 130 selected as the initial jury pool.The trial is expected to last two weeks.
