Mike's Blog: Viewer Response To My Battle With Prostate Cancer Gratifying

POSTED: 9:15 pm MST November 26, 2007
UPDATED: 3:37 pm MST November 27, 2007

The response to Sunday night's fourth installment of my journey with prostate cancer has been very gratifying.

Lots of e-mail and our Call7 Center took more than 80 calls Monday from folks looking for answers and resources regarding prostate cancer. A big thanks to the volunteers from the University of Colorado Hospital, including Dr. Al Barqawi, who has figured prominently in our stories.

Not everyone is all that happy to hear my stories about advances in prostate cancer treatment and research and I got an e-mail from her today. "M" wrote that she was, "personally... tired of hearing about (my) cancer. Enough already."

I wrote her back to say that I was tired of it too. And I was sure the other 200,000-plus guys diagnosed with it would just as soon never hear another word about it.

That said, you can count on me to continue to update you on the latest research, treatments and prevention on a regular basis. I don't think my getting cancer makes give me a bully pulpit, but I do think that someone who can (attempt to) sift through the overwhelming amount of information related to the subject can be useful.

7NEWS Producer Deb Stanley, Executive Producer Carrie Hofmann, Editor Jeramy Rosenberg, Director John Velte and our talented Graphics Department headed up by Mark Montour-Larson have been hard at work helping me wrap up our half-hour special report on prostate cancer we call "Prostate Cancer: My Story."

It airs on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. and will be run again on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1:30 p.m. and 10:35 p.m. following 7NEWS at 10 p.m.

It's a re-cap of the entire year of my journey with this disease and wraps up with news of amazing research on future treatments and preventions. We hope you’ll join us and then let us know what you think, right here at the TheDenverChannel.com
