GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Police are warning parents this Halloween of the danger of sexual predators who try to entice children using candy.Grand Junction police arrested a man charged with multiple counts of sexual assault on a child after he allegedly used candy and money to entice children to enter his home.Heather Benjamin of the Mesa County Sheriff's Office said three victims between the ages of 6 and 8 were enticed into the home of Jesse Dale Baker.
Investigators said they first heard of the alleged assaults back in September.According to the arrest affidavit, one victim reported to police Baker "likes to tickle her under her clothes," and allegedly told her he would, "kill her parents or have police come take her away if she told anyone about what he had done."Parents of the victims told police they noticed the children began acting strangely just after the assaults, washing frequently after using the bathroom and changing their underwear, the affidavit said. The victims mostly spoke Spanish and had trouble telling police what happened. All were neighbors of Baker, police said.A neighbor who lives in the apartment above Baker told police she saw the three girls come out of his apartment very late at night, around the same time the victims said the assault happened. When Baker was interviewed by police, he told them, the three victims asked him for money because they were illegal immigrants who wanted money because they had no electricity.Baker told police, "He felt bad for the girls and told them they could vacuum his floors and he would give them some money," the affidavit said.He denied touching the girls at all. However, police said there was enough evidence to charge Baker with the assaults and he was arrested Wednesday.Baker, 65, faces two counts of sexual assault on a child and three counts of enticement of a child. He is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.
