A former music/color guard coach who worked at several high schools in the Denver metro area was arrested Monday on charges of sexual assault involving a 16-year-old student.

William Samuel Paxton, 42, worked at Arvada, Alameda, D'Evelyn, Jefferson and Lakewood High Schools, said Jacki Kelly of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said they were told of an assault on a 16-year-old victim and began looking into Paxton's time at the five schools, said Kelly. Investigators believe there are other victims.

"Management and staff with the schools have been briefed about the investigation and determined Paxton to be ineligible for re-hire with the district until further notice," Kelly said.

Paxton has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, and one count of sexual assault on a child.

He is being held at the Jefferson County Detention Facility, Kelly said.
