An Aspen woman who was attacked by a bear in her kitchen Wednesday is talking about her close encounter with the bear.

Judy Garrison, who lives near the Aspen Valley Hospital, was awakened about 1:30 a.m. by a noise and went to her kitchen to investigate. She came face-to-face with the black bear and was struck in the face by the bear and scratched on her back.

Photos of her injuries show numerous stitches around her right eye and widely-spaced scratch marks on her back.

Garrison called for help after the attack and was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Investigating wildlife officers said the bear gained entry to the condominium through a closed sliding glass door.

Garrison will talk about the attack on 7NEWS at 4 p.m.
