Trucker Dies Removing Tire Chains On I-70

VAIL, Colo. -- A truck driver from Los Angeles was killed Thursday after he was hit by a vehicle in East Vail while removing chains from his big rig after he drove over snowy Vail Pass. Eduardo Gandarilla, 36, was hit once by a semitrailer and may have been hit by at least one other vehicle driving west on Interstate 70, Vail Police Cmdr. Susan Douglas told the Vail Daily News. "There is a possibility he was hit multiple times," Douglas said.
The accident was reported at about 1 p.m. Gandarilla died at Vail Valley Medical Center, authorities said. The cause of the crash and Gandarilla's death was under investigation, she said.Another driver was hit and killed by an out-of-control SUV Jan. 7 as he took the chains off his truck at a designated chain station in Georgetown.
