CASTLE ROCK, Colo. -- A Denver defense attorney was free on bail Thursday following his arrest in connection with intimidating a witness in a child sex case.Charles Leidner, 64, was arrested at his home Wednesday by a Douglas County sheriff's deputy. He was transported to the Denver City Jail where he was booked on a warrant of intimidating a witness and tampering with a witness, both felonies.According to the sheriff's office, Leidner is the defense attorney for Timothy Houser, of Parker. He is the defendant in a 2006 case of patronizing a prostituted child.
The sheriff's office said the alleged victim in that case is a 16-year-old girl. She is one of the alleged victims in the current case against Leidner, according to the sheriff's office."The incidents of intimidation and tampering were alleged to have occurred in June of 2007," a release from the sheriff's office states.Leidner's attorney Gary Lozow said his client would respond to the charges in court rather than in the media. "The accusations here involve egregious undercover efforts by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office to intimidate a defense attorney who was doing his best to represent a client in a difficult case," Lozow said. He said Leidner has been an attorney for more than 38 years.Leidner is due back in court on Oct. 22.A special prosecutor from El Paso County is handling the case.
