Suspect Named In Woman's Disappearance

Paige Birgfeld Missing Since June 28

Investigators in Mesa County have named a 56-year-old Grand Junction man as their sole suspect in the disappearance of Paige Birgfeld, a mother of three who's been missing for three months.

The investigators are not saying what the connection is between her and Lester Ralph Jones. He worked at a business where a tracking dog traced a scent from Birgfeld 's burned-out car.

Authorities have also searched Jones' home at least twice since Birgfeld disappeared. Now, they'd like to find him and talk to him again.

Investigators said that other people of interest, including her two ex-husbands, have been cleared.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office would like to talk to anyone with information about the whereabouts and activities of Jones between June 28 -- the day Birgfeld disappeared -- and July 1. Anyone with information should call the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office at 970-244-3500, press 0.

Sheriff Stan Hilkey did not know Jones’ whereabouts, but said he "believes he’s in town."

Jones is described as 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 240 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

There is no active arrest warrant for Jones, Hilkey said.
