EL PASO COUNTY, Colo -- A 70-acre wildland fire in El Paso County has forced the evacuation of one subdivision and the mobilization of a large number of personnel and equipment, a fire official told 7News.
The fire is burning in the heavily wooded Black Forest in northern El Paso County about 3 miles north of Colorado Springs.
Between six and seven homes in the Pinehurst Wood Subdivision have been evacuated, according to Melissa Hartman, El Paso County Sheriff's spokeswoman.
According to Hartman, 100 firefighters from 10 agencies were fighting the fire Sunday night. Four air tankers were on-scene making water drops Sunday evening as well, Hartman said.
There is no estimate of time of containment, Hartman said.
The cause of the fire, Hartman told 7News, was a riding lawnmower that malfunctioned and caused a spark that triggered the blaze.
The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. and quickly grew from 40 to 70 acres in two hours.
