A volunteer church youth leader in Boulder County was arrested Tuesday, accused of a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl last summer.

Nicholas Jason Nolting, 20, of Longmont, Colo., faces a possible sentence of life in prison if found guilty of sexual assault and sexual assault on a child.

The pastor at River Community Church in Lyons told the Boulder Daily Camera that Nolting had been removed from his youth leader position prior to the latest incident after he was caught kissing another girl.

Church leaders said Nolting had contacted them, asking for letters of reference so that he could obtain a youth leader position at his new church. The father of the 14-year-old girl also told investigators that Nolting had contacted him, asking for a letter of recommendation.

Rev. Micky Lohr told the Camera that Nolting was not a youth leader.

"He was strictly a volunteer who worked with the music team and played guitar," Lohr told the newspaper on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old and Nolting were found by a Longmont police officer at 4 a.m. on July 11 inside his parked Nissan truck. The girl told police that the two had been kissing and fondling each other, according to Nolting's arrest affidavit. She initially told police she was 17 but later admitted she was 14.

Nolting is free on a $2,500 bond.
