Jeffco Fire Ban Issued

Pike/San Isabel National Forest Also Included

Jefferson County will join the Pike/San Isabel National Forest in issuing a fire ban Tuesday.

The Jefferson County ban will encompass unincorporated areas west of Highway 93, west of Golden, and west and south of C-470, basically the foothills.

The fire ban covers:

  • Building, maintaining, attending or using any fire or campfire, except a fire within a permanently constructed fire grate in a developed park, campground, or picnic area.
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area of at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all combustible material.

Teller, El Paso and Pueblo Counties already had fire bans in effect.

People traveling to the mountains are urged to use caution when dealing with fires.
