Another fire near Golden burnt nearly 40 acres and came within about 100 yards of some homes, according to fire officials.

Larimer County Fire Claims 600 Acres

A 600-acre, wind-swept wildfire that started as a planned burn in northern Larimer County was extinguished by late Saturday night.

The fire was located about 3 to 5 miles northwest of Livermore between Red Feather Lakes Road and Hwy 287, which is about 20 miles northwest of Fort Collins, according to Major King, 7News Northern Bureau photojournalist.

Agencies responding to the fire included Livermore Fire Protection District, Poudre Fire Authority, Glacier View Fire District, and Wellington Fire Department, according to Campanella.

It took 30 fireifghters several hours to douse the blaze.

Golden Fire Chars 40 Acres

Golden fire officials spent much of Sunday investigating the cause of a grass fire that scorched 40 acres and threatened several homes Saturday.

Golden Fire Department spokeswoman Julie Brooks says two firefighters witnessed sparks coming off a utility pole near where the fire started.

Some residents suspect a carelessly discarded cigarette may have sparked the fire.

The blaze erupted just before noon and got within 50 feet of the Tripp Ranch subdivision before firefighters put it out.

U.S. Highway 6 was shut down for about an hour before some lanes were reopened.

Fire managers are bracing for even more fires along the Front Range.

The Colorado fire season normally begins in May or June, but forests and grasslands are dry now as they are in June.
