No Charges Against CU Student Over Virginia Tech Comment
Misdemeanor Charge Dropped Against Max Karson
POSTED: 11:20 am MDT August 22, 2007
BOULDER, Colo. -- The Boulder County district attorney's office said it will not prosecute a University of Colorado student over statements he made after the Virginia Tech massacre, provided he stays out of trouble for a year. The Camera newspaper reported the decision on its Web site Wednesday. Max Karson was arrested on April 17, a day after the Virginia Tech gunman killed 32 people and then himself.
Campus police said the 22-year-old CU student had alarmed other students by talking in class about how someone could be driven to kill because of injustices at universities.Karson said he was "angry about all kinds of things, from the fluorescent light bulbs to the unpainted walls, and it made him angry enough to kill people," multiple witnesses told police, according to a police report. He was charged with interfering with the staff, faculty and students of an educational institution, a misdemeanor.
