A four-acre fire sparked Wednesday afternoon in a greenbelt between two subdivisions threatened homes before it was contained.

Fire crews said a paved path helped to contain the blaze, which started about 4 p.m. and was contained about 6 p.m. Crews were soaking the ground to put out embers.

Witnesses said two or three youths were seen leaving the area about the time the fire started.

The Colorado fire season normally begins in May or June, but fire managers expect an early start this year because a drought has left forests and grasses as dry as they usually are in June.
