Westminster Police: 10-Year-Old Boy Killed By Drunk Driver

Survivors Talk About What Happened

A possible drunk driving accident claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy in Westminster Friday night.

Westminster police arrested Joshua Beadle, 21, on complaints including vehicular homicide and driving under the influence -- resulting in death.

The crash happened Friday around 10:50 p.m. at 116th Avenue and Huron street.

Police say Beadle, who was driving a Volkswagen Jetta, ran a red light and slammed into a Ford Expedition.

They say 10-year-old Cole Collins was in that SUV and was not wearing a seatbelt. He was thrown out.

His best friend, Creg Huape, 12, was wearing a seat belt. He walked away without a scratch.

The boys were riding home with his uncle from the skating rink.

"His seatbelt was stuck. It was jammed, and he was trying to get it on," said Huape. "Then my Uncle John yelled, 'Watch out' and we started flipping over and rolling."

Collins was rushed to Children’s hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police say at first Beadle gave them a false name and date of birth and said he was the passenger, not the driver. However, witnesses positively identified him as the driver.

Westminster police say Beadle has been arrested there before. They say he was driving with a suspended license.

"I just hope he goes to prison for the rest of his life,” said Huape. “He killed my best friend."

Beadle was charged with desertion from the Army on Dec. 22.
