DENVER -- Two dozen Iraqi exchange students told Colorado Governor Bill Ritter they hope U.S. troops will stay in the country much longer. The students are in Colorado as a part of a Sister City Program that allows students to visit other cultures. Most are afraid of retaliation in Iraq and asked that their pictures not be taken and their names not used.
The program coordinator, Shadee Malaklou told 7NEWS that the students are afraid of what will happen if American forces leave too soon. She said the students come from various cities and ethnic backgrounds and have gotten along very well. She thinks that provides hope for the future. The students are living with host families in the Denver area. Two kids are staying with the Saybe family who are serving as hosts during the two week visit.Matt Saybe said the students tell horrible stories of what has happened to them. He says most of the students know loved ones who have been murdered.Saybe says the student's stories have reminded him how lucky he is to live in America.
