Two people were ejected from a van that went off an embankment on Interstate 70 at C-470, stopping eastbound traffic for a time Thursday evening. The Colorado State Patrol said the van and a Volvo were involved in the crash that happened on I-70 between mile marker 259 and C-470.Multiple ground ambulances were on scene and at least one person who was ejected had to be airlifted to a local hospital. Two others in the van were transported by ambulance.
The driver of the Volvo was uninjured.Officials said it appears the driver of the van attempted to change lanes and collided with the Volvo. The van went through the guardrail and down the hill."We don't believe speed was a factor, it seems to be an unsafe lane change that happened," said Trooper Lawrence Oletski.Debris could be seen surrounding the van and along the path from I-70 to the spot where the van came to rest.Eastbound lanes were partially reopened just after 6 p.m. but traffic continued to be backed up for miles. All lanes were reopened around 8 p.m.State patrol officials don't suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The names of the people who were injured were not released Thursday night.
