A 36-year-old woman was killed after she jumped to her death from a moving ambulance along Interstate 25 in Greenwood Village.

Officials received a call at 2:28 p.m., of an accident on northbound I-25 and East Orchard Road.

Crews responding to the scene found that the woman jumped out of a moving ambulance and rolled to the side of the highway.

The woman later died at the Swedish Hospital. Police identified her Mondayas Melissa O. Watkins of Aurora, Colo.

A statement from Greenwood Village police said Watkins jumped from the ambulance on her own accord, was not pushed and did not fall out. No other vehicles struck the woman after she hit the pavement on I-25.

An emergency medical technician and a paramedic with Action Care were both on board the ambulance when she jumped. They were offered trauma counseling.

A cause of death was expected to be released Tuesday, following an autopsy.
