Pfc. Steven Davis Dies July 4 In Baghdad

A 23-year-old Fort Carson soldier was killed Wednesday in Baghdad, the Department of Defense said.

Pfc. Steven A. Davis died from his injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with grenades, officials said.

Davis was from Woodbridge, Va., and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team and the 2nd Infantry Division out of Fort Carson.

He joined the Army in September of 2005 and was deployed to Iraq in January of 2006. He received several awards including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, officials said.
