Backhoe Rolls, Killing Two Construction Workers

PARKER, Colo. -- Two construction workers were killed Tuesday morning when a backhoe rolled backward, over them, as they were trying to lay electrical wire in a ditch.One worker died at the scene. Another worker was transported to Littleton Hospital, where he later died. Neither have been identified.The incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. off Hess Road, near Triple Crown Drive and Pardee Street, where a new home development is being built by Advocate Homes.
The incident is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The workers were employed by ALC LLC."It looks like it was a tragic accident," police spokeswoman Sara Walla said.Police were interviewing the backhoe driver. Early information indicated the driver was trying to operate the bucket when the machine went into gear and accelerated in the opposite direction than the driver intended, Walla said.
