DENVER -- A convicted meth manufacturer was sentenced to 64 years in prison Monday after a jury convicted him in April on several drug-related charges.Jimmy "Ponce" Martinez, 29, was convicted of the charges that included child abuse after Fort Collins detectives searched his home last September and found meth and chemicals used to manufacture meth. They also found supplies, a recipe to make meth, and meth and drug paraphernalia.Martinez's wife's 3-year-old daughter was in the home when detectives found the drugs. Detectives said meth and drug paraphernalia were found throughout the home and near the girl's toys and belongings.
At Martinez's sentencing, prosecutors asked for the mandatory 64-year prison sentence, noting his extensive criminal history and that he was on bond for another drug charge when detectives searched his home Sept. 6, 2006.Martinez was found guilty of manufacturing meth, child abuse, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine precursor and possession of a deadly weapon by a special offender. In subsequent sentencing hearings, a judge found Martinez guilty of five counts of being a habitual offender. These convictions were based on prior crimes of conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, three separate counts of possession of a controlled substance, and felony theft.
