Thieves Target Westminster Mailboxes

Apartment Complex Hit Several Times In Recent Weeks

UPDATED: 7:09 pm MDT June 4, 2007

Westminster police are investigating reports of a series of mailbox break-ins and stolen mail at the Vintage at Hyland Hill Apartments in the 4900 block of West 93rd Avenue.

Police said the suspect has been prying open the doors to community boxes and getting access to dozens of people's mail. The victims said they are now concerned about the possibility of identity theft.

One resident said his driver's license was stolen. Another woman said someone put $500 in charges on a credit card stolen from her box.

"What happened is that night we were out of town. We got back late (and) figured we'd get our mail later,” said theft victim Amy Johnson. “But certainly, since this has happened, we have been getting our mail every day."

Police recommend people pick up their mail as soon as possible.
