BOULDER, Colo. -- A Boulder man was identified Friday as the victim of an Arkansas River fatal rafting accident.Charles Bointy, 52, died last weekend when the raft he was on capsized in the Royal Gorge, sending seven people into the fast-moving water.Fremont County coroner Dr. Dorothy Twellman told the Boulder Daily Camera that Bointy and another passenger traveled 400 yards downstream while five others made it back to the raft.
According to Twellman, a co-worker managed to grab Bointy, but the rapids were pulling them apart. Just before he was swept away, he told the woman, "I'm going to die."Twellman said Bointy was wearing a life jacket and helmet, but he had a history of heart disease and that contributed to his death.Bointy is believed to be the first person to die along the Arkansas River this season. He was a nursing aide at Boulder Manor nursing home.
