Friends Consult Psychic To Help Find Missing Attorney

Former Law Partner Says Royal 'Scoop' Daniel May Have Taken Off

POSTED: 9:58 am MDT May 3, 2007

Clues are starting to come together as Breckenridge police investigate the disappearance of a prominent local defense attorney, missing since Friday.

Friends said they are even talking to psychics about what may have happened.

Royal "Scoop" Daniel III, a real estate and immigration lawyer, was last seen Friday and was reported missing after missing appointments.

Investigators conducted searches at undisclosed locations in the resort town and out of state, but they declined to discuss specifics.

Police said Wednesday they had obtained 10 search warrants, eight for Breckenridge and two for out of state. The warrants were sealed, and investigators refused to say what they were looking for or where they were searching.

All eight search warrants were carried out Wednesday, and the two out-of-state warrants were expected to be executed on Thursday.

Daniel's friends said they are leaving no stone unturned, so they are consulting psychics.

"Most of them (psychics) have seen him in a car with another person, which he left his car here. So that’s right, too," Daniel's former law partner J.B. Katz said. "Whether that means it was a crime committed or he went even further to make it look like a crime was committed, I don’t know.”

Katz said agents removed hundreds of documents from his law office.

"I only know they took every file," Katz said. She told 7NEWS that agents took everything except the immigration files, including every computer and all the file cabinets. She said that indicates where the investigation is going.

"I'm less worried he was the victim of a crime and I'm more disgusted (and) concerned he perpetrated one," Katz said.

While Katz said it's possible Daniel just wanted to disappear, police said they are not eliminating the possibility of foul play.

"We'll know more when we hear about those search warrants," Katz added.

Daniel's former girlfriend, Cheryl Love, of Breckenridge, said friends worry that he was abducted because he would not leave willingly.

"He loves this community. His ego is this community," she said.

His family has set up a Web site to publicize the search for him.

Police spokeswoman Crystal Dean said investigators have received numerous tips but no reported sightings of Daniel.

"It's probably going to take a while to solve. I don't know how long 'a while' is," Dean said. "It's a big case."

Authorities said previously that a 911 hang-up call had been made from Daniel's cell phone Friday.

Dean said Wednesday the call was made at 7:48 a.m. and lasted nine seconds, but the caller didn't say anything.

"It was silent, nothing," Dean said. "There was no noise in the background."

She said a dispatcher called back but got only a voice mail message.

Some of Daniel's neighbors said they don't believe that Daniel would willingly leave his dog, his friends and his life behind.

"Now that it's been almost a week, (I'm) hoping and praying for his safe return," said neighbor Tricia Hyon. "It's very difficult for so many in the community."

Daniel's friends said he had strong business ties to Brazil.

When asked if it was possible that Daniel took off to Brazil, Katz said, "You know, it's a beautiful country. He's fluent in the language, several languages. He loved that place. Maybe only Breckenridge more."
