BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. -- The Breckenridge Police Department said Wednesday that a 911 call was made from Royal "Scoop" Daniel’s cell phone last Friday morning, shortly before he disappeared. The cell phone call was made at 7:48 a.m. and came from the Gold Run Gulch Road cell tower, which would be the nearest cell phone tower to Daniel's office at 130 Ski Hill Road, police said. The cell phone call lasted nine seconds but nothing was said. Summit County Dispatch called the number back but only received voice mail.
When officers arrived at Daniel's office, the only things that were found out of place were a writing pen on the floor and a broken pair of sunglasses. Nothing else appeared to be out of place, authorities said. The FBI and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are now helping the Breckenridge Police Department in the search for the popular and prominent attorney. There are three possibilities they are considering: he had a psychological problem; it was willful disappearance; and foul play.On Wednesday, police executed eight search warrants in the Breckenridge area. Two other search warrants are being carried out outside of Colorado.Investigators removed file cabinets, computers and other things from Daniel's office.Police won't say if the search warrants make the case a criminal investigation."I get the sense that this is the beginning of a pretty long investigation," said Crystal Dean, with Breckenridge police.Daniel, 61, was last seen Friday morning at about 7:30 a.m. A security camera captured him entering his office where he practices real estate and international law.Police said there are no signs of foul play, but they just can't believe Daniel would willingly leave without telling anyone. He left his dog, his keys and his car behind. Friends said that he wasn't having any financial or personal problems and everything seemed fine. His former girlfriend of six years, Cheryl Love, said that he was not adversarial, and practiced what he had called "good karma" law. He was well-liked in the community, spoke seven languages and practiced international law."It's an awful time. It's just an absolutely awful time for everyone in this community," said Love. "We don't know if we're mourning. We don't know exactly why we're feeling what we're feeling."She printed fliers with his picture and is passing them out all over town.Investigators are looking at his phone records, bank records, and legal documents for clues. There's been no activity on Daniel's cell phone since that 911 call.Next door to the Daniel Law Firm is radio station KSMT, 102.1, The Mountain. The station's news director told 7NEWS that it was odd to do a news story on someone he works so close to and someone he knew."It's an entirely different thing, and hopefully, everything works out for the best," said KSMT Mike Klepper.Daniel is described as a 61-year-old white male with blue eyes and white hair. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 210 pounds. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt and blue jeans.Anyone who has information about Daniel's whereabouts is asked to call Breckenridge Police at 970-453-2941 or the Summit County Sheriff's Office at 970-668-8600.More Info:
