Breckenridge Lawyer Reported Missing

Volunteers Search For Royal Daniel

UPDATED: 4:55 am MDT April 30, 2007

The Breckenridge Police Department has launched a criminal investigation into the disappearance of a prominent attorney.

Royal "Scoop" Daniel, 61, was last seen early Friday morning. A security camera captured him entering his office where he practices real estate and immigration law.

On Sunday, more than 100 volunteers set out in search of Daniel and combed a two-mile-wide radius around his office.

"The primary reason for our search today was to rule out the possibility that Scoop was anywhere in this downtown area," said Crystal Dean with the Breckenridge Police Department.

Police said there are no signs of foul play, but just can't believe Daniel would willingly leave without telling anyone.

"He is just tied everyway to this area and for him to just decide to go away is very unlike him," said Dean. "And an unlikely possibility at this point."

Daniel left his dog and his car behind.

"I think people are still in shock and surprised and not wanting to think anything bad," said Tracy Hausman, Pastor of Father Dyer Church where Daniel is a member.

Daniel is described as a 61-year-old white male with blue eyes and white hair. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 210 pounds. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone who has information about Daniel's whereabouts is asked to call Breckenridge Police at 970-453-2941 or the Summit County Sheriff's Office at 970-668-8600.
