Lawmakers Turn Down Columbine Panel

Committee Votes 7 - 2 Against Legislative Panel

State lawmaker turned down a legislative panel to investigate the Columbine High School massacre Thursday.

The House Judiciary Committee voted against the proposal 7 - 2.

The school is in Republican Representative Don Lee's district. The Littleton representative would have chaired the commission.

Lee said the investigation would have cost taxpayers about $100,000.

Among other things, he wanted the panel to look into claims police accidentally shot a student as he ran from the teenage gunmen.

Twelve students, a teacher and the gunmen died in the April 1999 shootings.
