Trooper Charged With Sex Assault
Alleged Assault Occurred While Trooper Was Off Duty

A Colorado state trooper has been arrested
on child sexual assault charges and placed on paid administrative
leave.
Gary Born, 48 (pictured, left), a trooper since 1991, was arrested Tuesday by
Jefferson County sheriff's deputies, Colorado State Patrol
spokesman Jim Wolfinbarger said Wednesday.
Born faces felony charges of sexual assault on a child, sexual
assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and sexual
assault on a child as a pattern of behavior. He was released on
$25,000 bond.
Born has an unlisted phone number and could not be reached for
comment. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
The alleged offenses occurred when Born was off-duty and
involved someone he knew, Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Jim
Shires said. He would not elaborate.
Born has worked mostly in the patrol's Golden, Colo., office. In May
2001 he was assigned to the patrol's investigations section in
Lakewood, Colo.
