Cab Driver Fatally Shot In Colorado Springs
Police Report Gun Battle In Area

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A stray bullet from a gun battle may have killed a Colorado Springs cab driver, police said Thursday.Officers were called to the area of Pikes Peak Avenue and Wahsatch Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after callers reported hearing gunshots. They found a taxi cab crashed on Wahsatch and discovered the driver was dead."It appears that the cab driver was traveling southbound on Wahsatch Avenue when he was struck by a bullet from the shots fired on Pikes Peak Avenue," said Lt. Rafael Cintron, of the Colorado Springs police.
Cintron said that it appeared there was a gun battle between two groups of individuals in the 300 block of Pikes Peak Avenue. Callers reported hearing anywhere from 10 to 15 gunshots.The area was still blocked off Thursday morning as police continued their investigation.The cab driver's identity has not yet been released.Anyone with information about this shooting death is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000 or Detective Richard Gysin at 719-444-7500 or they can remain anonymous and contact Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP.
