File Accident Reports Online

No Need To Wait At Law Enforcement Office, Or For Officer

UPDATED: 1:58 p.m. MST February 28, 2002

Reporting minor fender benders is no longer a major inconvenience, thanks to some new technology. The Colorado State Patrol has developed an online reporting system.

Until now, if you had a minor crash you'd have to go to a law enforcement office to file a report or wait for an officer at the scene. The online system lets you do the same thing from your home or office. The instructions are easy to follow and the process only takes a few minutes.

This Web site may be especially helpful during bad weather when accident alerts are in effect. During those situations, if you get into a car crash that does not involve any injuries, exchange information with the other driver and then move on. There's no need to wait for a patrol officer to arrive, according to the state patrol.

But because Colorado state law requires that all motor vehicle accidents be reported to the proper law enforcement authorities, you'll still need to file the report.

This way, you can file the report in the comfort of your own home or office. The Web site is http://crash.state.co.us/splash.jsp.
