Detectives investigating the alleged gang rape of a University of Colorado at Boulder coed plan to travel to California to gather evidence, according to a report in Thursday's Boulder Daily Camera.
Boulder Police Cmdr. Joe Pelle said detectives would conduct interviews there with people who may have information about what happened on Dec. 7 at an off-campus apartment.
CU police Lt. Tim McGraw said the off-campus interviews could
happen while students remain on holiday break, which ends Jan. 14.
"There are some things we can do in the interim and if someone
is out of state this would be a good time to go talk to them," he
said.
A female college student reported that she was raped at a party for high school football recruits that was attended by some members of the CU football team.
At least five of the visiting CU football recruits were from California, the Camera reported. A half-dozen players and about 15 recruits attended the party and alcohol was present, according to two witnesses who were there.
The Camera had sought the information in a state Public
Records Act inquiry. University officials said releasing the names
was not in the public interest, and said previous court rulings
have upheld keeping records secret to avoid unnecessarily
associating people with alleged criminal activity.
The investigation is expected to continue for at least a month, because investigators will have to travel out of state, Pelle said.
