Qwest Could Release Customers' Information

Customers Can Prevent Account Data From Being Shared

UPDATED: 4:38 p.m. MST January 2, 2002

Unless Qwest customers take action soon, some of their personal information may go out to companies without their permission, 7NEWS reported.

Thousands of Qwest customers are being notified by a mailing insert that the company plans to share information that customers may consider private with its DSL and wireless subsidiaries.

The personal account information shared could include how many lines the customer has, features subscribed to, and calling and billing information including places a customer may have called.

According to company spokesman Tyler Gronbach, Qwest has no plans to sell account information to third parties. However, there's nothing to stop the company from doing so unless customers take action soon, 7NEWS reported.

To prevent account information from being releasead, individual customers can call (877) 628-3732 within the next 30 days, and businesses can call their Qwest representative.
