The snow and the cold didn't stop Easter services Sunday morning at the Coors Amphitheatre. The service was hosted by the Cherry Hills Community Church and is considered one of, if not the largest, Easter service in Colorado.Amid freezing temperatures and falling snow, the crowd was a few thousand people short of the usual turnout. But hundreds bundled up to celebrate Easter on a day that seemed like Christmas.
"It's a tradition, we always come here," said worshiper Tammy LeFebre. For 17 years, the LeFebre family has sat in the same spot at the amphitheatre on Easter Sunday."We saw it was snowing and it made us even more determined to come out. We thought it would just be a great day to come out and worship," Greg LeFebre said.Believers of all ages braved the cold with warm thoughts and hot coffee."I say it's Easter -- it's what we should be doing," said Lisa Kounter. "We've got our coffee, we have our Einstein's and we have our candy. What more do you need?""We encouraged our folks to dress like they're going to a Broncos game. It's an event you wouldn't miss, and likewise for us, Easter Sunday is an event we wouldn't miss," said Rebecca Johnson of Cherry Hills Community Church. And just as the service came to a close, there seemed to be a sign from above."Right when Jim Dixon said the sun will come out, was the exact moment the sun came out in the sky," LeFebre said. One speaker told the crowd because of the weather, those who come to church only on Easter and Christmas get two punches in their card for coming Sunday. And just about everyone said it was worth it.
