Family Survives Tornado By Taking Cover In Bathtub

Twister Sends Family, Bathtub In Back Yard

A family has a remarkable story to share after a mother and a father survived a tornado that ripped through their home in the small eastern Colorado town of Holly.

Terry Nutt's parents took cover from the tornado in their bathtub. When the twister hit, it sent debris and furniture flying through the air.

Nutt said her father covered her mother in the bathtub, but when the tornado came through, they, too, were sucked out of the house.

"It picked them up and just threw them," she said.

They ended up in the back yard of the house.

Both survived and are recovering at a hospital.

"I could not believe it," Nutt said. "I said I have to go down there to prove to myself that it is gone. And it is."

All that the devastating tornado left behind of her parent's home is the foundation of the house.

On Thursday, Nutt went to the home to assess the twister's aftermath that left the backyard covered in debris and mangled metal.

"We're trying to get their personal belongings," she said.

But the family is still missing their beloved dog.

"They loved their dog," Nutt said. "We can't find him."

Nutt said it's possible in time another house will take the place of her parent's home.

"I don't think they will ever live here again," she said. "I think they will move on."
