Jesus Christ Credited For Burglary Arrest
Man Claims Son Of God Told Him To Call 911
POSTED: 7:44 a.m. MST December 17, 2001
A Grand Junction, Colo., man said that Jesus Christ helped him solve a mysterious burglary at the coffee shop where the man works.
Robert Kettle, 44, was troubled by a theft at the Colorado Java House in Grand Junction. Someone stole $400 and police suspected that it was an inside job, because there was no sign of forced entry.
The money disappeared a month ago and police were stumped.
Kettle, who is developmentally disabled, was at home after midnight Sunday when a voice told him to call 911, and he did. He said the voice was Jesus Christ.
Kettle got on his bicycle and pedaled the 10-minute ride to the coffee house, as police responded to the 911 call.
When Kettle arrived at the business he found police already there and a suspect in the back of the patrol car. Police said the suspect had a key that fit the front door. They also found $373, with deposit slips, in the trunk of the suspect's car.
Justin Barhite, 18, was booked into the Mesa County Jail in connection with both burglaries.
Kettle says it's all the work of a higher power. "We need to have faith," he said.
