DENVER -- Nearly 300 anti-war activists showed up in downtown Denver to mark the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq. Dozens of people held signs and chanted while marching to the State Capitol. They all had the same message."We did our mission. We got rid of Saddam. Get out," said Sue Stantejsky of Denver."I was against it to begin with and I think it went wrong just like I thought it would," said Anne Arey of Denver.
The event in Denver was one of hundreds being held throughout the country on Saturday. In Boulder, the crowd was just as big. Instead of a march, activists wrote letters to state leaders, asking them to help stop funding for the war."I think that there's no right war. I think the most important thing that you can do in the world is advocate for peace," said Rosie Friedli from the Rocky Mountain Peace Center. While there were no supporters of the war at the Denver and Boulder rallies, organizers said there were more than 400 events taking place in other cities at the same time. In Washington D.C., police had to put barriers between supporters and protesters to keep them physically apart.
