Blood Identified From Missing Mother

Mother, Daughter Disappeared One Month Ago

POSTED: 7:06 a.m. MST December 13, 2001

The large pool of blood that is key to what appears to be a murder mystery in Grand Junction, Colo., came from a missing mother, the Rocky Mountain News reported Thursday.

Jennifer and Abby Blagg

Genetic analysis by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation revealed that the blood found in the master bedroom of the Blagg home belonged to Jennifer Blagg, 34, according to the News. She and her 6-year-old daughter, Abby, disappeared exactly one month ago on Nov. 13.

Homicide investigators said previously that the amount of blood found on the bed led them to believe that either Jennifer or Abby was dead.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Department would not confirm the report and previously announced that it would not reveal the results of the blood test in order to protect the investigation.

Michael Blagg called police on Nov. 13 to report that his wife and daughter were missing. He said that when he came home from work, he found Jennifer's van in the garage and the back door open, along with signs of a struggle in the house.

Sources told 7NEWS that the pool of blood was the only blood found in the Blagg home. There were no droplets on the floor near the bed, 7NEWS reporter Julie Hayden said. That would indicate that the victim was wrapped in something before being removed from the house.

Investigators said that Michael Blagg has not been eliminated as a suspect in the case. He has repeatedly denied any involvement and recently moved out of the house where his wife and daughter disappeared.

Sheriff's investigators have expanded their investigation to several other states in their search for clues. The Blagg family lived in California, Arizona, Texas and South Carolina before moving to Grand Junction last year.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff's department at (970) 244-3500 or Crime Stoppers of Mesa County at (970) 241-7867.
