Man Found Posing As Student In High School

School Officials Concerned About Man's Motive

UPDATED: 4:33 am MST March 6, 2007

Police were called to Centaurus High School in Lafayette Monday, after a strange man was spotted in a classroom.

Boulder Valley School District officials told 7NEWS the youthful-looking adult, who could pass as a teenager, was found sitting in a classroom. The man may have been trying to blend in by carrying a backpack, they said.

A student pointed out the stranger and police were called. The man left the school before officers arrived, however.

Administrators said given the recent tragedy in Bailey, Colo., awareness of strangers is higher at school.

"Kids are looking, teachers are watching, adminstrators are watching," said Briggs Gamblin, Director of Communications.

Gamblin praised the alert student who reported the stranger.

The school plans to review its safety procedures to see how the man got inside in the first place.

Lafayette police say they're investigating reports of two cars that were broken into in the area. It's not known if the break-ins are related to the man who entered the school.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lafayette Police.
