Judge Orders Teen Stabbing Suspects Held Without Bond

Formal Charges To Be Filed March 7

A Boulder County judge ordered two juveniles held without bond Friday, in connection with the stabbing death of Linda Damm, 52, of Lafayette.

One of the suspects is Damm's 15-year-old daughter. The other two are the daughter's 17-year-old boyfriend, and a 16-year-old male friend.

Lafayette police received an anonymous tip about the murder on Feb. 27. They weren't able to obtain a search warrant until the following day. That's when they found Damm's decomposing body. The coroner said the victim died of multiple stab wounds to the neck. He's still trying to figure out when she was killed.

Neighbors say Damm's garage door was usually open, but that it had been closed for two weeks, and that an upstairs window that was normally closed had been left open. They noticed other unusual behavior: the teenage daughter and her boyfriend car surfing on the street in front of the house; the daughter coming and going at all hours of the night; and very loud music.

"To be partying like that, knowing that (somebody) is dead shoved in the back of a car, let alone your mother, is inexcusable," said former Lafayette resident Amy Honchar. "I just think that is horrible."

Neighbor Stephen Weddig said he often heard the mother and daughter fighting.

"I've heard screaming, and I think I heard, 'I hate you,'" he said. "One time she (mom) came over, and she was crying saying she can't handle it."

Damm was divorced. Her ex-husband, the girl's father, lives in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Damm's daughter and one of the male suspects were in court Friday morning. The other suspect waived his right to a hearing.

All three juveniles are due back in court March 7. That's when formal charges will be filed.
