The Adams County Sheriff's Office is asking for help finding a sexually violent predator.

Beecher Cook, 42, was convicted of sexual assault on a child in the state of Maine. He moved to Colorado several years ago, and at one point registered in Denver.

"In his situation, as a sexually violent predator, he has to re-register every quarter," said Adams County Sheriff's Lt. Mike McIntosh. "He has failed to do that."

Last week, authorities found Cook's I.D. card and Social Security card in a camp alongside Clear Creek near 64th and Pecos. They took a photo of Cook to several nearby businesses.

Some of the owners told investigators they recognized Cook. He was seen inside one of the adult businesses on North Federal Boulevard last Wednesday.

Adams County resident Petra Mendoza said that makes her nervous. She has several grandchildren who live in the area. After looking at a photograph of Cook, Mendoza said, "I think I (saw him) before, at a grocery store."

"It's real scary," added Mendoza's daughter, Jasmine. "I'm usually around this neighborhood with my sisters, little cousins and their friends."

The Mendozas say they'll keep a closer watch on the youngsters in their family, and won't let them wander away from home without adult supervision.

Cook is still believed to be in the area around 64th Avenue and Federal Boulevard.

He's a white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 230 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes..

If you know his whereabouts, you're asked to contact local police.
