LAFAYETTE, Colo. -- The 16-year-old daughter of a slain Lafayette woman was being held Thursday, along with the teen's boyfriend and another juvenile, in connection with the discovery of the woman's decaying body inside the family home.An autopsy revealed that the 52-year-old woman died from multiple stab wounds to the neck.Authorities have not released the identity of the woman, pending the notification of next of kin, but neighbors said the 52-year-old owner of the home where the body was found has not been seen for several weeks. However, neighbors said they noticed her teenage daughter partying at all hours of the night for the last two weeks.
Police found the body Wednesday afternoon after receiving an anonymous tip that a murder had taken place in the home in the 700 block of West Brome Place. The single mother's teenage daughter and two other teenagers were arrested at the home where the body was discovered. They were being held for investigation in connection with the case. Police would not identify their relationship to the victim but said the homicide was not random. The telephone tip was received Tuesday night, but police were not able to obtain a search warrant until Wednesday afternoon.Neighbors said the missing homeowner was a stickler for cleanliness, and newspapers and trash had been piling up around the home for the past few weeks. They said an upstairs window had been open for the last several days, which was odd.Neighbors also said they had seen the woman's teenage daughter coming and going at all hours of the night.Neighbor Stephen Weddig said he noticed unusual behavior at the house for about two weeks."Even in the winter the garage door would always be open, and for the past two weeks it has been closed," he said.Weddig said he would often hear the mother and daughter fighting."I've heard screaming, and I think I heard, 'I hate you,'" he said.Weddig said the mother eventually confided in him, saying she was having trouble with her daughter."One time she came over, and she was crying saying she can't handle it," he said.Other neighbors said they noticed teenagers were car surfing up and down the neighborhood streets with a black Acura that was parked in front of the woman's house Thursday."That car was supposed to be for her daughter, but the boyfriend was always driving it," Weddig said.Neighbors said they noticed cigarette butts piling up in the front yard.Neighbors who have lived in the neighborhood for years said they have never noticed a father or a father figure at the house, just the mother and her daughter. The Lafayette Police Department was assisted by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit at the home. The three juveniles were scheduled for a detention hearing on Friday.
