An underweight cat with burns on its legs and sores on its mouth is fighting for her life after she was abandoned in a PetSmart this week.

The 7- to- 8-year-old cat weighs only a few pounds and doctors said it is a clear case of animal cruelty and abuse.

The cat was taken to Table Mountain Animal Center and is under the veterinary care of Indian Tree Animal Hospital in Arvada, where they are trying to nurse her back to health. However, they said they don't know if they tiny cat will survive.

"It is uncertain if she will make it through this. The entire veterinary staff is pulling for her. She's definitely proven to be a fighter," Dr. Megan Belfiore said. "She's not had a good life. We just want to give the poor little cat a chance she has obviously never been given."

The cat was found extremely malnourished and has mouth ulcers, making it painful for her to eat. She has burns on her legs and dangerously matted fur. Doctors said she is battling an upper respirator infection as well as infections on her legs from the burns.

Anyone with information on this animal cruelty case is urged to call Lakewood police.

If you would like to help the cat and others like her, call 303-278-7575, or visit www.tmac4pets.org.
