AURORA, Colo. -- A 21-year-old man was sentenced to a maximum 108 years in prison Thursday for his role in the July 4, 2004, fatal shooting at an Aurora park that prosecutors said prompted the double-slaying of a witness and his fiancee. Robert Ray was convicted of being an accessory in the murder of Gregory Vann, 23, and faces separate charges in the death of Vann slaying witness Javad Marshall-Fields and his fiancee, Vivian Wolfe. Ray's co-defendant, Sir Mario Owens, was convicted last month of first-degree murder in Vann's slaying and faces up to life in prison without parole at his sentencing in April.
District Judge Michael Spear announced the sentence in court after relatives of the victim asked for the maximum sentence.Ray was convicted in 2006 on two counts of criminal attempted murder and two counts of first-degree assault for wounding Marshall-Fields and Vann's brother, Elvin Bell, as they tried to stop Ray and Owens from leaving the park after the shooting.Ray, Owens, 22, and Parish Carter, 24, are awaiting trial in the slayings of Marshall-Fields and Wolfe.
