Injured Berthoud Teen Goes Home

Tyler Carron Released From Hospital; Nikko In Fair Condition

One of two Berthoud High School wrestlers who lost their legs in a car accident has been released from the hospital.

Tyler Carron was released Wednesday and his friend, Nikko Landeros, remains at Denver Health in fair condition.

"I'm excited to be going home, but am disappointed that Nikko isn't yet able to come with me. I'm looking forward to rehab, and am anxious to return to my normal life with my family and friends. I would like to thank everyone who has been so supportive of Nikko and me. We truly appreciate everything everyone has done for us," Tyler said in a statement that was issued upon his release.

Tyler and Nikko were hurt when a car hit them last month while they were changing a flat tire near Berthoud High School. They were coming home from a dance and the driver who had hit them is a fellow student at Berthoud High.

The community of Berthoud has rallied around the 17-year-old student athletes, raising tens of thousands of dollars to help their families pay for hospital care.

"As we've said before, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for Tyler and Nikko. The entire community has been amazing. We would like to thank everyone who has helped us through this difficult time," said his father, Bruce Carron. "We are looking forward to getting Tyler home where he can continue to recuperate and receive rehabilitation so that he can return to school and his friends as soon as possible. We would like to ask that everyone please respect our privacy, and allow Tyler and our family to focus on getting Tyler well."

Two days ago Biaggi's restaurant where Carron's brother worked, presented checks totaling more than $80,000 from a fundraiser to Carron and Landeros' families.

"It's really exciting to hear that he's doing so well, and he got out earlier than the original 10 days they said a couple days ago for the skin grafts and the last surgery they had," said Biaggi's manager Mathew Sampugnaro. "So, we're really happy to hear that."
