VAIL, Colo. -- If you want to save a buck at the ski resorts by sharing season passes, beware. On Vail Mountain, they're on track to bust twice as many people as they did last year, thanks to a bigger photo on ski passes, alert employees, and improved training.Between November and February, 32 of 42 people arrested have been prosecuted, compared with three people by the same time last season, Detective Sgt. Craig Bettis of the Vail Police Department said Tuesday. Last season, 64 people were charged with "deceptive use of a ski facility," as the charge is formally called.
Violators face a maximum fine of $999.Vail Resorts spokeswoman Jen Brown said employees are offered a financial incentive, but wouldn't disclose the amount."We're also working on improved technology for the future but are not at liberty to discuss specifics," Brown stated.
