Aurora Residents Fed Up With Icy Roads

POSTED: 4:16 pm MST January 31, 2007
UPDATED: 4:47 pm MST January 31, 2007

With the seventh storm in seven weeks, Aurora residents said they are shaking their heads in disbelief at the layered snow and ice that has yet to be removed from their side streets.

One resident said in some cases the roads are bad enough that people have to use a four-wheel drive vehicle to get to their homes.

"It's ridiculous. This is just absurd," motorist Dan Fischer said. "I feel like I'm going on a four-wheel drive adventure while I'm driving down my street."

"No more snow. I cringe every time I hear the weather report on TV," said homeowner Megan Deas. "I just don't even want to hear it anymore."

Aurora Public Works crews focused on removing ice Tuesday. On Wednesday, they shifted to snow removal left behind from a storm that left a fresh layer of snow on already icy roads.

"In six weeks since the blizzard I think we have been able to give our people two days off," said Chris Carnahan of Aurora Public Works. "They were so jazzed last Sunday to have a day off when the sun came out and it was nice. But it's really starting to wear on them, day after day."

Aurora residents and ice-removal crews said they look forward to the day when temperatures warm up and begin to melt the snow.

Aurora Public Works said they will return to ice removal by early next week, depending on the amount of snow that comes in the next day or so.
