Newborn In Murder Investigation Was Born In Car

Teen Expected To Be Charged In Death Of Newborn

POSTED: 8:59 am MST January 31, 2007

A newborn found dead in a teen's college dorm room may have died in a car traveling in Douglas County several months earlier, investigators said Wednesday.

Addie Kubisiak, 18, of Parker, Colo., will be formally charged Thursday in the death of the newborn baby.

Kubisiak was arrested Monday in Gunnison and was being held without bail in the Douglas County jail for investigation of first-degree murder.

Douglas County investigators said the remains of the infant were found in Kubisiak's Robidoux Hall dorm room at Western State College in Gunnison. Officials made the gruesome discovery after students were alerted by a foul smell in the building.

Although the infant was found in Gunnison, police said the investigation indicated that the baby was born while in a vehicle that was traveling through Douglas County in late November 2006.

Kubisiak's arrest warrant, issued by Douglas County, has been sealed.

Investigators said they were waiting for the results of an autopsy from the Douglas County Coroner's Office. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office were alerted to the case on Saturday by the Gunnison Police Department.

Gunnison Police Department discovered the baby's remains while conducting a search on the campus on the Western State College.

Initial rumors that a murder had taken place on campus caused some Western State students to worry. Rumors swirled around the normally quiet campus about a killer on the loose. The college issued a statement telling students that they were safe and not in danger.

A first-degree murder charge alleges the crime of murder was premeditated. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is also recommending that she be charged child abuse resulting in death and concealing death.
