Teacher In Sex Case Held Without Bond

Carrie McCandless Surrenders After Latest Accusations

UPDATED: 1:10 pm MST January 31, 2007

A former Brighton charter school teacher turned herself in to Larimer County authorities Wednesday morning after she was accused of contacting the alleged teen victim of a sexual assault.

Carrie McCandless faces charges of sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection with an alleged incident last fall. The minor is a former student at Brighton High Charter School. When she was originally arrested, she was ordered not to have contact with the student or any other minors.

A motion filed in the case alleges that McCandless contacted the student last week, two days after appearing in the same courtroom with him during her preliminary hearing. The student had been subpoenaed and 7News video taken of McCandless before the hearing appeared to show her talking to the student.

An arrest warrant issued Friday alleged that McCandless violated the terms of her bail in contacting the teenager.

McCandless was being held without bond on Wednesday. Her next court appearance has not yet been set.
